My Kindle unlimited has been a great way to sample new authors. This is my second book by T.J. Yelden and I enjoyed it. I read the reviews before I read this book and one stated that it was like Twlight, not at all.
In this book we have a story about a foster child and not really knowing any of her family history. Her foster parents move to a small town for their job. Kendra has to start over with a new school/senior year and new friends. She is befriended by a girl and her friends. The new friends are wolf shifters.
This books deals with all the developing relationship between these friends. A girl who never really fit in and now suddenly fits in fine. There's a start to a relationship between Kendra and Cade.
There is not hot steamy relationship in a T.J. Yelden. More chemistry between the two main characters would have been nice but maybe in the next. One can only hope!

Just disappeared after part one.

Okay... Stuff happens. But don't introduce something as a trilogy and then disappear. At the end of this month, we're looking at a year? Just hold off publishing anything until you're committed or have something completed. Sorry if this sounds snarky but most of the people who publish on Kindle are serious writers who stick with a project and manage a reasonable release schedule.

Great All Around Book For Anyone Seeking Knowledge

My wife ordered this book for me because I have always had an interest in the BDSM lifestyle. It came highly recommended as a timeless resource for beginners. I must say this is a very good book that covers a lot of topics in the leather community. The author has a great sense of humor and explains things in a way that even a newbie can understand it. The many illustrations are a great added visual aid for those who learn better by visualization. My only complaint would be that the book was obviously written years ago and can be a little dated at times but that is the only downside to this great book. I plan on studying it carefully over time and taking in the wealth of knowledge inside. This has become a staple in the BDSM for good reason. It is an almost perfect manual and I am sure it will continue to be for years to come. If you are new to the scene or just want to add to your library this book is a must have. I am very pleased with my purchase.

I recently purchased Screw the Roses Send Me the Thorns as a single female novice in BDSM scene. I knew it was well written because I had borrowed this book a long time ago so when I went onto Adult Match Maker I wanted what I already knew to be an easy to understand and somewhat humorous guide.
I especially found the what to watch out for in a Dom section very helpful because it confirmed my suspicions with some men I had been communicating with online. I already knew that a good Dom is always a caring watchful person who always has his sub's physical and emotional safety as his top priority especially when applying pain for both their pleasure. I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending this sensible and sometimes humorous book particularly to a single female novice like myself.

As a young man, McBride saw his mother as a source of embarrassment, worry, and confusion—and reached thirty before he began to discover the truth about her early life and long-buried pain.

In The Color of Water, McBride retraces his mother's footsteps and, through her searing and spirited voice, recreates her remarkable story. The daughter of a failed itinerant Orthodox rabbi, she was born Rachel Shilsky (actually Ruchel Dwara Zylska) in Poland on April 1, 1921. Fleeing pogroms, her family emigrated to America and ultimately settled in Suffolk, Virginia, a small town where anti-Semitism and racial tensions ran high. With candor and immediacy, Ruth describes her parents' loveless marriage; her fragile, handicapped mother; her cruel, sexually-abusive father; and the rest of the family and life she abandoned.

At seventeen, after fleeing Virginia and settling in New York City, Ruth married a black minister and founded the all- black New Brown Memorial Baptist Church in her Red Hook living room. "God is the color of water," Ruth McBride taught her children, firmly convinced that life's blessings and life's values transcend race. Twice widowed, and continually confronting overwhelming adversity and racism, Ruth's determination, drive and discipline saw her dozen children through college—and most through graduate school. At age 65, she herself received a degree in social work from Temple University.

Interspersed throughout his mother's compelling narrative, McBride shares candid recollections of his own experiences as a mixed-race child of poverty, his flirtations with drugs and violence, and his eventual self- realization and professional success. A touching book about the discovery of an unusual and painful past

I was constantly amazed at the energy it took the protagonists mother to raise twelve children!!!!! More incredibly how they were all raised with so little material means yet with an abundance of love. A lesson for me not to take the easy path of replacing values with the various useless gadgets that might one day overtake my garage. Saying No can be hard when you want to overcompensate raising your children in a tight situation but giving them what matters most - An education in class and more importantly in the things that are real and changeless will be worth more than gold all the time. Very Emotional and Inspiring read.

I could not put this book down. Knowing nothing about the book other than recommendations from my friends. This moving, true story about racism, poverty, the importance of education, strict parenting and parental love. What really matters in life? The novel teaches the reader an important lesson. As the Beatles said, "Love is all you need."

In his book, The Color of Water, James McBride tells the story of his mother's life and the story of his own search for identity. It is the remarkably moving story of a young woman who is compelled to leave her home, her family, and her Orthodox Jewish faith and heritage behind her. Rachel Shilsky moves from Virginia to Harlem and marries Dennis McBride, a Christian black man. When her family learns what she has done, the entire family (collateral relatives included) declare Rachel dead and sit shiva. At that point, Rachel realizes that all ties to her past are severed. She becomes a Christian, changes her name to Ruth, and wholeheartedly throws herself into her new life without a backward glance. She founds the New Brown Christian Church in the Red Hook projects in Harlem, and raises twelve outstanding and highly accomplished children.

Ruth's path in life is filled with crises, obstacles and painful situations. But Ruth's journey is one that is driven by love, compassion and determination. Fortunately, Ruth is equipped with a strong will and an amazing insight. When one son asks her the color of God's skin, her response is "God is the color of water". Like everyone else in this world, Ruth makes mistakes and has to deal with personality flaws. This woman does so with grace.

James McBride shares his personal struggles as well. Throughout the majority of the book, young James grapples with racial identity issues, anger and anxiety. When James loses his stepfather in his early teens, his grief is so profound that he becomes unmoored for a few years. I am mixed race and was raised in a household of conflicting ideologies. I have to say that James McBride puts my feelings about my mixed upbringing into words -- and he gets it right.

I alternately cried and laughed as I worked my way through the final five chapters of the book, its epilogue and afterword (I even cried and laughed through McBride's acknowledgements). I identified with virtually every sentence. This book has my highest recommendations.

Knowledge of God and Self-Assessment

I did not know what to expect due to the title of this book by Dr. Brewer. Then I read the very positive "endorcements" by the many well-known writers, teachers and pastors. The book covers for the new, young and growing Christian a package of evangelical and fundamental Bible-based education. I was kind-of looking for a suggested "formula" at the end for a person to carefully assess/measure his or her "Spiritual Quotient." This book, to me, is Teaching Life's Issues Class 1 thru 101. Dr. Brewer, an excellent communicator, just might consider his next book on the same or simular topics and sujects and cover Class 201 thru the "End times".

Well rounded approach

Mark's got a nice book here. He decides to take on every controversial issue known to Christendom in one book, and somehow pulls it off.

What he does exactly right is the structure of the book. The first section lays a fairly clever foundation for approaching spiritual issues. He draws on the likes of Howard Gardner's multiple intelligences to say that there is a spiritual intelligence that simply helps people live life better. He then names the four pillars on which Christian decision making are made: Scripture, Reason, Wise Counsel, and the Holy Spirit. Then he dives into everything from homosexuality to war, politics and money, other religions and hell.

The only weakness of the book is that he has a fundamentally and unquestioned modernist approach to the Scriptures. He asserts that every passage has only one interpretation (p 50) and that the author's original intention can be discerned, which begs the obvious questions about who subdivides the text and whether or not any of us have only one intention in the things we communicate, much less whether or not literary genres like parables can be constrained to single meanings. Given the foundation, American evangelicals carry the day on most of the issues.

The strength of the book is the voice. Brewer writes from his own experience with nearly every subject in here, and you can tell he's a Pastor who cares about people and about intellectual honesty. In this world, that combination is painfully unique and eagerly welcomed. So on that front, whether you agree with his conclusions or not, this is exactly the kind of book you want to use for conversation fodder. Books should be pretentious enough to make some grand assertions, or else they're not worth reading. But this book does so without a combative edge. So if you want a beginning point for discussions, lectures, or small groups on social issues, this is the place to begin.
